Van Raam Adaptive Cycles
Wheelchair Transporter
Velo Plus
The VeloPlus wheelchair transport bike is designed for transporting people by bicycle, who can remain seated in their own wheelchair. The passenger is not required to be transferred between the wheelchair and the cycle. The co-rider can be wheeled on to the cycle easily without having to be lifted. The tilted ramp makes it easy to roll the wheelchair on to the wheelchair bike and fasten it properly with the wheelchair lock.
The optional winch system makes this even easier. Instead of the driver using his or her own power to push the wheelchair user and wheelchair up or down, the electric winch takes over.
The wheelchair transport bike has a new modern design with oversized rear frame, improved driving experience, better stability and improved functions.
Opair
The OPair wheelchair bike is designed so you can transport a wheelchair user. A seat for the wheelchair user/passenger is affixed to the front of the bike.
From the back, the cyclist can view the road and view the passenger.
Side-by-Side Bikes
Fun2Go
Chat
The Chat is a rickshaw on which one driver can transport one or two people in the front of the bike. The passengers are seated in an ergonomic and suspended tub that is fitted with seatbelts. The driver is seated behind them and therefore has a good overview of both the passengers and the road.
As the name suggests, people can comfortably have a chat while out on a cycling tour. The bike is suitable for people that want to go out, while they can be supervised by the driver. With the chat, every ride becomes a fun adventure.
Single Rider Bikes
Easy Rider
The Easy Rider tricycle is a tricycle for adults. Because of the unique frame, it has a low step through and a lower center of gravity. The Easy Rider is very easy to ride on, even if you have never ridden a tricycle before.
The Easy Rider has a comfortable seat with adjustable back support, lower back support, and raised edges on the side for better sitting comfort and lateral support. This provides a stable and secure feeling. The seat is easily adjustable with the quick-release lever. Getting off the bike is easy because the bike has a slightly higher seat. The forward pedaling movement and the suspension in the frame ensure perfect riding comfort.
Easy Rider Jr
The Easy Rider Junior tricycle is specially designed for children, who have difficulties with stability. This sturdy and smooth tricycle with a low step through has a seating with backrest and therefore, gives more support than a cycle with a regular saddle. The frame has a suspension for optimal comfort. The comfortable forward peddling position makes the cycle sporty. The Easy Rider Junior is available with various options, such as a direction indicator set, arm rests, foot fixation and an electric motor for power assist. Read everything about electric pedal support (Pedelec) for this bike. For safety reasons, the Easy Rider Junior is limited to a maximum of 9 mph.
City Walking Aid
The City Walking Aid is a game changer for people who have difficulty walking or standing for long periods of time. A great alternative to a typical walker or a wheelchair. With the Walking Aid, the body weight is supported by the saddle relieving pressure on the leg joints. And with it, walking requires much less effort allowing you to cover longer distances. In addition, the walking aid is foldable and lightweight so you can easily take it with you in the car, bus, train or plane.

Funding Resources To Purchase Bikes
Funding Resources in California
- Regional Center Funding:
We’ve seen families have success applying for funding through their local Regional Center. Regional Centers sometimes require multiple quotes for the bidding process. We recommend reaching out to your local regional center and begin a “request for service.”
- TRICARE/ECHO Funding:
It is best to work through an equipment dealer to tap into this funding. This has been a phenomenal funding resource for any parents who are active military. All Tricare patients have access to the EFMP (exceptional family members program) department. There is an EFMP department at each of the military hospital installations. Families have to first enroll in EFMP and then the EFMP departments have the application for ECHO. https://www.tricare-west.com/content/hnfs/home/tw/prov/res/prov_wellness/care/echo/registering_in_echo.html
- Kelly Brush Foundation:
Provides grants for individuals with paralysis caused by spinal cord injury to purchase adaptive sports equipment https://kellybrushfoundation.org/theactivefund/
- Oracle Health Foundation:
Will fund up to $2,000 towards adaptive bikes. They have some income-based restrictions. https://www.oraclehealthfoundation.org/request-a-grant
- UnitedHealthcare Children’s Foundation:
Provide grants up to $5K. The families must carry private insurance (Medicaid does not qualify) and they prefer having a denial through medical insurance to qualify for their grant program. They have some income-based restrictions. https://www.uhccf.org/apply-for-a-grant/
- Athletes Helping Athletes:
They’re helped to partially fund several bikes in the past. Typically require a video of the applicant riding independently. Funding limit is $2,500.00. https://www.roadrunnersports.com/content/apply-for-grant
- Help Hope Live:
Crowdfunding platform that is strictly for medical purposes/causes. They assist families throughout the process and often help stimulate donations. https://helphopelive.org/get-started/
- Additional Non-Profits:
National non-profit organizations such as Make-A-Wish, Elks, Lions Clubs, etc. have funded bikes and chairs in the past.
Funding Resources in Oregon
- Harold and Arlene Schnitzer Care Foundation: https://schnitzercare.org/
Supports families living in Oregon or SW Washington. Referral must come from a therapist or social worker
